Founded in 1862, Queenstown is a resort town built around an inlet of Lake Wakatipu. Originally a farming and gold-mining town, Queenstown is now known for its commercial tourism activities, and has four-seasons appeal. The centre of Queenstown consists of a few streets tightly-packed with tourism operators, restaurants, souvenir shops, bars, cafes and outdoor pursuits retailers.
